PM Turnkey: customised fuel cell hybrid systems

With PM Turnkey, OEM manufacturers get turnkey fuel cell hybrid systems of between 5 and 200 kW of power for their products and applications. The experts at Proton Motor design these systems based on the requirements of the application in question, using modular individual components and integrating them into the vehicle's drive system. A modular system of this type comprises a PM Basic fuel cell, storage elements such as batteries and ultracaps, power management and an electrical converter as well as hydrogen tanks appropriate for the type of operation in question.

PM Turnkey systems are ideal for regional buses, ferries and urban utility vehicles. It offers the greatest advantage in all cases where the hybrid system needs to be specially adapted to the application and a standardised solution is not yet available.

The advantages of the PM hybrid approach are apparent here: there are no exhaust gases containing CO2 and the drive is quiet. In addition, the system causes minimum vibration and offers superlative efficiency. This is because the integrated fuel cell have only to cover the basic load. The storage element absorbs surplus energy, such as that generated during braking. Immediately high performance is required, the storage device delivers the energy to the drive motor. The more the vehicle stops-starts, the greater the potential savings from the PM Turnkey system. Compared to conventional diesel propulsion systems, fuel costs can be reduced by approx. 50 per cent.

A customised system like this is used in the sweeper (hy.muve) in Basel.

The core of the bus is the PM Turnkey hybrid system, based on the PM Basic A 50 fuel cell system.
